INITIATIVE

The 5:14 Initiative
Our desire as a community is to connect our destiny with the destiny of other communities around the world. Practically this means, that as a community we will give of our time, talents, and money, to those around the world that have little hope. The 5:14 Initiative can be understood as follows:
  • The community of 5:14 will designate 20% of its money to be used outside the walls of our building. These monies will be marked and accounted for as the 5:14 Initiative Fund.
  • To tie our destiny to another community means this: We want our friendship, our finances and our skills to make a marked impact on specific communities such as the Dominican Republic and Uganda, which means that we can see the impact of our work plays in helping to accomplish the goals of those communities. Moreover, to tie our destinies means that we change our mindset about things like “missions.” We are not simply going to “help” these communities; rather, we want to see our lives in Greensboro as part of the same story as our friends in other parts of the world. If our friends have no food, 5:14 needs to feel that burden. If our brothers and sisters have lost hope, we need to feel that burden.
  • It will take time and effort to learn to live in a new way that reflects this value, but we believe that living in this way will not only show people the love of Christ, but to live this way will help each of us to really understand what it means to be followers of Jesus and citizens of Heaven.
