Most people call this time “Going to Church”, but we are in a quiet rebellion against that phrase. How do you go to something that you are? The people of God are the church and what we do at 5:14 on Sundays is gather together to grow and to worship our Creator and do exactly what we were created to do – worship God in unison. Our Sunday Gatherings are a time that we receive inspiration and be challenged through the scriptures, hear stories of what God is doing, sing songs that reflect what our hearts believe, encourage and support one another, and focus our attention as a community upon a few specific ways that we can love others corporately because individually it would be impossible.
God the Creator has wired his creation to connect with him in a number of different ways. One such way is learning and memorizing the scriptures. For generations God has spoken to his people through the written word and as a community we want to saturate ourselves in these words and allow them to shape and sharpen us into the people that God has for us. In addition to studying the scriptures, we also want to allow space for other ways to connect with God that have been lived out before the written word was even established: such as, listening prayer, praying with and for one another, extended times of singing worship psalms, and sharing personal stories and examples while learning from the mistakes and triumphs of one another. Coffee talk is generally a time where smaller groups of people can not only discuss issues and topics in ways that are impossible in a larger gathering, but they can also share the burdens and joys of life with one another.
the church at 5:14 is currently meeting in the fellowship hall of Florida Street Baptist Church.
